Clear, amber color with tinges of gold; a bouquet of dried fruit, vanilla, wood and toffee with a smooth, medium-sweet finish and an excellent balance between the fruit and acidity. Blandy's 5 Year Old Malmsey Madeira is a rich, sweet fortified wine produced on the island of Madeira, Portugal. Crafted from the Malvasia grape variety, known locally as Malmsey, it undergoes fermentation halted by the addition of grape brandy, resulting in a luscious sweetness balanced by vibrant acidity. Aged in American oak casks using the traditional 'Canteiro' method, the wine develops complex flavors of raisins, toffee, and roasted nuts, complemented by a distinctive marine note. With a deep amber hue, it offers a smooth, medium-sweet finish and is best enjoyed chilled as an aperitif or paired with desserts, cheeses, or foie gras. Wine Spectator awarded it a 92-point rating, highlighting its creamy texture and unctuous, spicy finish.Β
